Tarana

Tarana

Tarana, means harmony. A little angle with lot of zeal to study. She is not only a bright and sincere student but also good at dance and drawing. She aims at studying harder and is focused on getting admitted to a renowned school. After attending the school at DISHA, she goes to the mosque and studies Urdu. As claimed by her mother, she is very dedicated when it comes to studies and does not compromise with her study hours. Initially, she refused to come to school but after 5-6 regular visits, the team at DISHA made her feel comfortable and she adapted to the surroundings after then. Currently, she has completed almost an year at our school and is ready to take further steps towards achieving her dreams.


Neha, Anshu, Sunitha (mother) and Suman

Sunitha, mother of three girls Neha (9) Anshu (7) and Suman (6) works as a maid. The courageous lady took a big stand for her girls. She used to send her daughters to DISHA. After eight months of primary education at our school, Neha and Anshu got admission in a good private school. Suman has completed one and half years at Disha and is ready to be enrolled in the first standard.
When we asked their mother why she felt the need of educating her daughters she said – “I don’t want my daughters to live the same life as I do, I want them to study, grow and have a life of dignity’’. Our team is constantly looking after these girls and is helping them in every way possible.


Alfez

Alfez

Alfez’s father is a mechanic and his mother is a maid. It has been almost one year when he started coming to Disha and after the training of about 3-4 months, he got admission into one of the good school in the community. He studies in the first standard and is doing well in his academics.
On being asked what he wants to do when he grows up, he said –“I want to become a Doctor and fulfil my parents’ dreams.”

Tabassum

Tabassum (12) has 4 siblings. Her mother recently went through a surgery. She is the elder one and has to do all the house hold job before heading to school. After doing so much at such an early age she manages to come to school. On being asked what inspire her to come to school she said –“I want to be a teacher and educate people about the importance of education in our life.”


Pooja and Vandana

Pooja and Vandana

Daughters of a peon, Pooja and Vandana never stepped in a school before their mother got to know about the education project at the DISHA. The reason they weren’t able to afford education was poverty. AID provided them a platform where they could get free education.
Today, Pooja and Vandana have begun a beautiful journey at Disha to fullfill their dreams.


Sonia

Sonia

11-year-old Sonia wishes to become a teacher one day. One of the brightest students of fifth standard at Swami Vivekanand School, Faridabad, she is now on the right path to fulfill her desire. But five years ago, this was a farfetched dream. Her father, a factory laborer had lost his job. Not able to afford her schooling, they had to drop her out from the school. Hope of a good education was almost lost, until AID Faridabad came along and made a difference in her life.
Our teachers and volunteers constantly motivated her to perform better and monitored her performance. They further mentored and guided her to apply for the entrance test conducted by Swami Vivekanand School. Through everyone’s persistent effort and her very own strong determination, Sonia cleared the exam and secured full scholarship at Swami Vivekanand School.
Today, not only Sonia’s family keeps a check on her studies, but they also encourage other parents from their colony to send their kids to Paathshaala. Sonia’s success story continues to inspire many others and depicts our constant and diligent efforts to spread education to the poor and needy.


Manisha

Manisha

Manisha, a little girl from the nearby slum, cannot hear and speak. It’s pity on her part though but she has been gifted in a unique way to understand the surroundings around. Her urge to learn and understand concepts quickly motivates not only the students around to study but also the volunteers at UDAAN to double-up their efforts. Volunteers are working continuously to discover new methods to make her understand the concepts in the easiest possible way.


Kajal

Kajal

Kajal (3rd class), one of the brightest students at UDAAN perfectly sets an example for the adage “When the will is ready, the feet are light”. Despite all the hardships she and her family faced, she is not giving up on her dreams and is dedicated to achieve her goal of becoming a teacher. Her father, a construction worker, leaves no stone unturned to help his child financially and is an inspiration for others in the slum.


Akash

Akash

Akash, an adroit student of 3rd class, makes sure that his study hours at UDAAN are not compromised. He has been an inspiration to his parents too and they too have become serious about his academic future. He aims to get admission to a private school where he could get quality education to realize his dream of becoming a doctor and provide a better lifestyle to his family.


Raja and Mahek

Raja and Mahek

Cousins in relation, Raja and Mahek are students at UDAAN. Raja, being the mischievous, is also an adroit kid. One can make out the degree of mischievousness from this statement “I want to be a wrestler like Roman Reigns”. He is also very serious when it comes to studies and believes that he is incomplete without a proper education. Mahek, on the other hand, is gentle and soft by nature and shows great acumen towards studies. The cousins study hard and are determined to provide their parents a better lifestyle.


Raja and Ritu

Raja and Ritu

Raja and Ritu are siblings studying at UDAAN. Both of them are bright students with an inner zeal to make their mother proud. Despite being left by his father at a very young age, they have been brought up by their mother who works very hard to support their education financially. Raja boldly shrugs away the fact that he is not blessed with a lavish lifestyle and studies hard to become a political leader one day. Volunteers are constantly accessing both in various areas of academics and personality development and believe in the fact that their efforts will help Raja and Ritu realize their dreams.


Kajal, Indu and Kashish

Kajal, Indu and Kashish

The kids remind one of the three musketeers from the movie and are really smart to understand the concepts. Kajal is adept in painting and have good learning skills. Indu’s parents are working day and night to support their children’s education. The little girl manages her time well. She not only takes care of her younger brother and various household chores but also gives time to studies at night. She aspires to become a teacher one day and educate the slum children the way the UDAAN volunteers are doing.


Sonu , Harish and Manish

Harish, Sonu and Manish

These are the three brothers out of which Sonu is the eldest one. The boys are very hard working and sincere in studies. As the eldest one, Sonu takes good care of his siblings and helps them in studies. Sonu wants to be a police officer and the volunteers at UDAAN are working hard for making him realize his dreams. He believes that he has the required qualities to be a police officer and we have full faith in his capabilities
